Subtitling for the deaf and hard of hearing has gained increasing significance as efforts to improve subtitles continue to grow. Numerous studies have been conducted in Iran and other countries to explore subtitling practices for this audience. These studies address various aspects of subtitling for the deaf and yet most of them ignored the audience. The current study is designed with a particular focus on the younger generation views on subtitling for the deaf. The primary objective of this research is to evaluate the strategies employed in subtitling for deaf and hard of hearing individuals in audiovisual content in Iran. The participants were asked to answer a questionnaire about subtitling for the deaf and then the responses were categorized and analyzed. The survey revealed that movies and series available on the internet predominantly utilize subtitles designed for the hearing-impaired and those programs on national Iranian Channels lack SDH. Additionally, participants perceived SDH (Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing) to be very limited and they were exposed to a few strategies mentioned in the questionnaire. Ultimately, this research benefits both the deaf community and translators by shedding light on effective subtitling practices.
