| Abstract: | How source narratives are translated into target narratives has been a noticeable concern in Translation Studies. This concern may become a critical issue when the reality as portrayed in the source narrative becomes affected by the different narration of the translator. Therefore, the result, would be a translated narrative with a different form of narration in contrast to the source narrative. Translation Studies can hopefully provide a chance for the researchers to examine translated narratives through a careful comparative linguistic analysis. Therefore, the present study investigated narratology and optional shifts through a linguistic comparative analysis of the source and target narratives and a case study of the Literature of Resistance. This research was an attempt to examine how such challenging narratives like the Iran-Iraq War narratives were translated and how different narration of the translator affected the narratological aspect in the source narrative. To this end, Pekkanen s (2010) model was applied in this study. According to her model, those optional shifts which occurred repeatedly affected the narrative element as the narratological aspect in this study. Having analyzed the data, it was revealed that shift of expansion-additions which were the most frequent shift type with 203 instances, contraction-deletions with 112 instances, and shifts of miscellaneous cases with 36 instances made a total of 351 (37.9 %) out of 926 instances and affected the degree of the specification as the narratological aspect in this study. Shift in the degree of specification led to a different translated narrative in comparison to the source narrative and affected the reality of the war as portrayed in the novel Journey to Heading 270 Degrees . Moreover, it was revealed that optional shifts which happened at the clause/sentence level with a total of 554 against 926 instances of optional shifts found in this study were more frequent than optional shifts related to the phrase level (161instances) and word level (220 instances). |
