The Impact of Computer-Aided Translation Tools on the Translation of Legal Texts: A Process-Oriented Study[پايان نامه لاتين]

In the past, translators had limited resources to solve their translation problems; however, with the development of computer-aided translation tools, translation turned into a much more technical activity. The present thesis aims at outlining the translation problems during the Persian into English translation of legal texts and enumerating the strategies adopted by the professional translators using translation resources especially the computer-aided translation tools. For the purpose of the study, 10 professional translators were given a translation task, and they were observed during the translation process using different instruments of data collection such as screen recorder, voice recorder and the retrospective interviews. The recorded observations showed that the computer-aided translation tools had the most contribution to the translators’ problem-solving and task accomplishment in the process of translating legal texts. The results of the study show that the translators’ primary choices for finding the meaning of the unfamiliar terms, grammatical problems and use of prepositions were CAT tools and more specifically the Google Search Engine, which sometimes acted as a mean to gain access to a corpus of information. In this regard, translators adopted various strategies in order to find the answer to their translation problems online.Legal translation, CAT tools, translation process
